Jesus in the Storm

Storms are frightening things. They are frightening because of the unexpected things that they bring, the danger they hold, and the way they challenge our understanding of the way the world works.

Mark tells the story of Jesus and his disciples in a storm out on the water. Waves are crashing over the boat, filling it with water. The disciples, some of who are experienced sailors, are working the oars and taking down the sails. Others are bailing water out of the boat. It looks like they might sink.  Jesus is asleep while all this activity goes on around him.

The disciples wake Jesus up and what he does next makes them more afraid than the storm they were battling.
